I have got to stay out of the fabric store.
So I went back today to buy more of what I needed. The black gauze, and one of my students liked the gold chiffon and I said since I was headed there anyway... I'd get enough to zip up a veil for her too.
And I fell in love with this beautiful wine & gold patterned chiffon. (cheap) Just love it. - I was thinking awesome circle skirt - 60 inches wide but only 3 m. (that's about ... 3 1/2 yards.) So now I'm trying to figure out... how to flex my pattern to make this work. Dammit! I'll figure it out somehow.
And what the heck - I bought 7 m MORE of the gold chiffon. so I should get a 3 panel circle skirt out of that.
OMG. and they had a ton of this glorious satin charmeuse on sale *weeps* but I resisted. I really don't want more circle skirts.
Question. I wash my fabric before cutting& then drip dry on a clothesline. The other day I washed the white gauze that I bought and threw it over the line as usual. Now when it dried - it stretched out of shape all across the portion where it was draped over the line. I'm going to have to rewash and throw into the dryer - aren't I? Alternate drying suggestions welcome.

When I'm washing fabric, I take it with me to the laundromat and throw it in the washer (with the rest of my laundry) and then into the drier. I do this to just about everything. Even silk and linen. Oh, don't look so shocked.
I wash and dry fabric to get out any sizing and get some shrinkage in. If it's going to shrink, I sure want it to happen before I cut it (it only takes cutting and sewing a pattern first and then it shrinking get into the pre-wash habit). I don't want to be bothered with dry cleaning so I'm not worried about washing, you can machine wash and dry most "dry clean only" fabrics. It will change the texture and sometimes make it more interesting. I tried it with a cheap linen and the only "drawback" is that the linen is softer now.
Sure, there are some fabrics this won't work with. I sure am NOT going to do this to velvet or some $25/yd brocade. Fabrics with a funky trim or threadwork get the gentle treatment as well.

I wash everything in the washing machine but I have a clothesline in my basement. I dry nearly everything on it. Any of my clothes with spandex or rayon etc. component - all my bras & undies. All of DH's work clothes - dress shirts & pants. He's a tall guy and before doing this all his shirts used to end up shrunk half way between wrist and elbow. So now nearly everything gets hung to dry.
Towels, sheets, some t-shirts(not all)& socks go in the dryer.
I guess I'll toss it in the dryer then. ...
