DH has persuaded me to continue with this paper until I can talk to the prof Monday at least. I suspect he is secretly trying to put me into a mental institution.
Last night's hafla?
I dropped about $150 at the bazaar, most of it on a pair of zills, a CD (learn to zill with Jamila) and a DVD - Aziza - Ultimate practice drills (Cleopatra's Bazaar.)I wanted but couldn't justify the $60 for the Ansuya zill DVD. I am DETERMINED to at least play a little zills. Maybe a quality pair will help? I tried on a tribal belt and bra, it was just okay. I'd want to cut the bra in half and reverse the cups. and if I need to do that much work... I might as well start fresh and make my own. I then left there and dropped another 80 at a dance shop that I just learned of recently.
At the party that night...
the set up was... okay... little tables and really crappy chairs. The food was okay but mostly cold, although there was a lot of it. They'd left a really large area for dancing.
the dancers (nearly all professionals) were amazing. There was a tribal group from Sarnia that did two numbers. AWESOME. D*mn if Sarnia wasn't so far I'd think about driving up for lessons - if I could find someone around here to split the drive with me... I probably would too. Audra was down from Toronto she did a number to Rachel Brice's Snakecharmer song - Stunning. Vicki was spectacular, and Lana, the rest... good but... those were the really amazing ones.
I had a long chat with another local instructor - Nicole - she did not perform,
I did not stay for the open dancing...although they had a great floor for it. Frankly at that point I was tired and intimidated, my costume was irritating me. especially since I was one of the very few that was in a costume that was NOT a gypsy or a belly dancer. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR.
I am back to doubting my ability to teach this beginner class.
I did photos at the yoga studio in the morning... I was not comfortable at all. The guy gave me zero feedback - I had no idea what to do - 'just dance' I'll take some photos... that just wasn't working.
I'm going to have to find a venue where DH can take them for me.
DH came with me last night and I think he was really bored, particularly by the fact that I spent much of the night chatting with Nicole. There were almost no other men there and while he really enjoys the performances...the sitting there before and after and in between... I think it gets to him.
It's now 5:30 am and I'm back at the paper again. *sigh*
