I got new zills. Okay so they aren't double slots

but I love the sound so much more than my others. And because they are tiny I find them much easier to control. BEST OF ALL - the dogs don't hate them.  and $15.  Less than half what I paid for my Saroyans.  If I like them a lot ... I may order some of their tinker zills later on.

for more images and a complete breakdown of my 4 sets of zills... see my Flickr page.

Note the Velcro & baby booties.

So THAT is what those things are.

I've been wondering. When I was in high school, we had a cultural assembly--the different ethnicities would do dances, songs, music, plays, that sort of thing. A lot of the middle-easterner girls had those.

Lovely pictures, and I agree with [livejournal.com profile] kelsey_lynne1. Lovely picture.

metal finger cymbals :) also called Sagat in Arabic, (Zills = Turkish)

Very old depictions of dancers(16th/17th century Persian) show them in wood and call them castanets.

The Ottoman Empire controlled Spain for a long time - transition to flamenco?
