I can't go swimming alone.

period.

not in a fresh water lake.  not in a swimming pool.

If I am with someone - I can be reasonable and mature about it.  but if I am swimming by myself it  feels spooky and creepy and I just end up getting out of the water.

why you ask?

I was about 7 or 8 and saw Jaws on television.  You know the scene where the shark grabs her by the leg and she's violent thrashing around... yeah.  that one.  Combine that with the fact that it was summer and we were going to the cottage my parents had rented on the lake.

I know it is completely illogical and silly.  It doesn't matter if it is.  I can't go swimming alone.
