dust off your math skills.
I have a piece of patterned fabric - sheer or somewhat. It is 60 inches wide and maybe 3.5 yards long. (it was all they had.)
I'd like to do something semi-old school cabaret - something with a circle skirt look - but not enough fabric to follow my usual circle skirt pattern.
What do you think would be the best way to do this?
Cut it into three equal sections and pleat the top?
Cut three pie shaped pieces? = 1/3+1/3+1/3 = a circle right?
Make it significantly shorter and add some complementary trim to the bottom?
SUGGESTIONS please?

.

I don't think the pattern is one that is directional - so I'm not worried about making it line up or anything. Should I be?

If it were plain, You could do your cuts as (bear with me here). You'd probably get more pieces than I'm showing because you'll need to adjust for your height and hip size.
|***//\\***| The * indicates print and the \\ and // indicate cuts.
|**//**\\**|
|*//****\\*|
|//******\\|
Then you could piece that together (I used . to make spacing)
.../||\......./\
../*||*\...../**\ sew the triangles together
./**||**\.../****\
/***||***\./******\
I don't know if I'm being clear with these ASCII drawings or if I am just being more confusing.

Is it too pathetic of me to try cutting this out in minature on graph paper?

isn't it gorgeous! I was so upset when I found there wasn't enough fabric!
but I'm going to cut it as thirds - will give me a back circle of 2/3 and a front section of 1/3. Then I'll just have to figure out how sheer it is. I think it will look gorgeous with the gold coin bra/belt.
Isn't this awful! the more I want to move into tribal fusion the more cabaret I become.
Maybe I just need to move out of various influencing spheres and find my own self.

Anyway, lots of tribal girls wear panel skirts. I agree though, it will look great with a gold coin bra/belt.
I don't know much about it, but isn't there something called Triaret? It's like cabaret and tribal combined. I'm sure you'll find your own self though.

yes I did a workshop with Ava Fleming. That's what she calls her style.
:) I'll figure it out as I go along right?
