well I just got a call from the campus rec office of the university.

Seems that our instructor was in a minor car accident over the weekend and will be unable to teach tonight. Next week is a holiday and they are hoping that she will be back after that. It was in the back of my mind to offer to teach the class myself. CRAP now how am I going to find out about the hafla? - just occurred to me. and of course I hope she's okay...

in other belly dancing news. I just bought Mystic Dances - Veena and Neena again. FABULOUS. I had a heck of a time getting it to work in my DVD player but... once I did.... it has a slew of new and old moves. It would be better if I could have watched, put it on pause, practiced in front of a mirror and then resumed watching but... I learned some great new stuff. There's an arm section and a hips section with a ton of different figure 8' moves - one they call bicycle hip - that I had never seen before. I had to practice it in the mirror to get the hang of it... It's hard but I LOVE IT - looks really cool too. Veil moves, and turns. I had a hard time with the turns. Not that the turns are hard but they want you to practice something called spotting - staring at one spot so you don't get dizzy - didn't work I was very extremely dizzy after only a few attempts. - need to do that one in sections I guess. - I was hoping to ask my instructor if she had any tips.

Also my wrists crack and creak when I do wrist circles? any tips there?

(Incidently - they say that motion in MAYA's is supposed to come from the lifting of the heel - exactly opposite of what my instructor teaches ... go figure.)

I worked on the outfit that I am hoping to wear to the hafla. Tried to moderate between sexy enough that I will still wear it when I go out and modest enough that I wouldn't be embarrased to wear it in a room full of women. balance. So Maybe I will get to practice with the DVD today after all.

I can't BELIEVE I've just agreed to teach 4 - one hour belly dance classes to my sister's women's studies group, she'll let me know when they have arrangements made, room booked etc.

I plan to do a little history/myth busting the first class - along with some basic moves ... maybe the shoulder and hip shimmy - and hip and chest circles, wrist circles, head slides? too much for the first class maybe...

class two review plus figure eights - maybe snake arms, veronic arms, goddess and aladdin arms, I'm not teaching candle arms no matter what J - my husband, thinks of them - I think they look creepy. nile arms?
class three - hip lifts and drops, camels? doubt it- that's beyond a beginner class,
class four - veil work, maybe? along with that eye look that J likes - it's easy and really sexy.

I might have to bump the majority of the arms to another week, snake arms takes real practice - with a mirror.

Now the real dilemma is music and stuff. EEEKS I can't believe I am going to do this.
