the problem with having more than one journal is that SOME of the stuff applies to both

On Sunday night I learned that Bozenka* is giving a (dance) workshop in East Lansing... which is again about 2 hours or so from my house... I assumed that it would be sold out by now. I emailed the co-ordinator of the event to see if I could get tickets to the evening performance bemoaning the fact that I was too late to sign up for the workshop - there are NINE spots left... but it is on a first come first serve basis.

I had just finished telling myself that I would go and enjoy the performance. but now I'm all twisted and torn over whether or not I should think about going to the workshop? ... but if I don't make it into one of those NINE spots... its an awfully l-o-n-g drive for nothing.

Oh boy.

______________
Bozenka - here is her website.http://www.bozenka.biz/

My husband and I saw her perform last April when the belly dance superstars came to Detroit and she was THE BEST performer of the evening - we thought anyway... I mean they were all fantastic but if I'd had to choose... a dancer that I had seen in person as my favorite or the one that just knocks my socks off rather but I knew only from video and reputation like Rachel Brice ... it would be Bozenka...

wow. I don't know what to do. ...

P.S. If you are a belly dancer who reading this and thinking. Wow... I'd like to get into this workshop... maybe I'll drive over there and steal one of these last spots away from dancingleaf... I will hunt you down and torture you with Willaim Shatner CD's or something. and then ... I'll... I don't know... but... I'll get you and your little dog too!

I'm going to post this as a response to misheymo rather than a separate posting

(I decided to include this in my own journal so that I could find it again if I wanted to.) edit

my review of Cassandra's workshop

This was my very first workshop ever, don't know if that matters but...

choreography is the bane of my existence. I'm not very good with it. period. - It takes me a long time to learn a piece. Which means I found Saturday very very frustrating. I don't think I ever completely captured any of the combinations before she moved on to the next. I couldn't see what she was doing and it was far too crowded. However, there WERE people who did get it. But Sardines is a pretty accurate description

I did enjoy the performance tremendously. Two of my teachers performed solos in the first half.
Cassandra's performance was AWESOME.

On Sunday, there were about HALF the people of the day before. I only stayed until the lunch break, but it was great. She did some veil work to warm up, then some zills (about half an hour each). Yes a room full of zill beginners, however it seemed that only a few, including myself were complete beginners. She then did a bunch of hip drills and layering movements, combining the shimmy with the hip circle, fig 8, maya. Truthfully today is the workshop that best suited me. I felt like a million bucks when I captured that movement.

When I left Cassandra was going to work through lunch with anyone who wanted to go through yesterday's choreography.

I'm sorry that I left when I did, but I was just wiped out. Tired from the day before, still fighting a cold etc and I needed to get home because of another commitment.

I did enjoy it immensely and it does give me a better idea of what to look for and what to expect in my next workshop.
