Boombox contenders.
Nov. 27th, 2010 08:03 pmKeep in mind I wanted to keep this to the $100 range - was willing to go to $200 but really... that was my limit.
I need MEGA SOUND. VOLUME.
portable.
ipod compatible.
battery power potential is nice but not ... essential.
Today I saw
$300 Bose. Awesome sound. Extremely portable. So portable I would be terrified to bring it with me on gigs. Talk about invitation to be stolen... Small. rechargable battery built in - may last 4-5 hrs.
$100 Sony TRIK. 75 watts of power, not very portable - no handle - but I could easily make it a carrying case. fair size, decent sound. No one would steal it. highly unlikely at any rate, although the ipod itself would still be fair game. NO battery possibility. Seriously - it doesn't even have a place you could PUT batteries. I would buy this in a heartbeat... if I could put batteries in it.
Also looked at a
$300 Altec Lansing which I ruled out... but am now reconsidering since I can get it online/US for $180.
$370 JVC Kaboom. - yeah way past what I wanted to spend
Did not see the iK501 - by Kicker that I've been looking at online. ($180 or so)
may have to go over to the states and fight the hordes of shoppers - or wait and shop boxing day sales.
I don't know.
On one hand I'm very tempted by the TRIK. it's not so much money that I would feel I had to hold onto it forever... on the other hand... it's too big to put on a kitchen counter and would be strictly a going to gig boombox.... AND no BATTERY in case of emergency!
