Aug. 14th, 2012 04:24 pmDaisy does not always sleep through the night.
which means someone needs to get up and let her out so she can go potty.
sometimes she comes right back in and sometimes she sleeps on the deck or finds a spot and sleeps under a bush or something.
Last night she went out around... 12:30 am? and I fell asleep on the futon in the family room.
at 4 am... I heard the rain start and said - Darn dog - too stupid to come in out of the rain... I better go out and get her....
and found out the GATE WAS OPEN!??!!?!?
OMG!!?!?!?!
Daisy was gone?!
so I went screaming up the stairs - woke J up - put some pants on and went tearing around the neighbourhood with my flashlight at 4 AM looking for the slowest dog in the creation of dog. IN THE RAIN!!!
How do you LOSE A DOG that has a maximum speed of about 2km /hr ON A GOOD DAY?
I then rationalized waiting until 6:30 to call my boss and tell her I couldn't make it to work today...changing the message on the machine over to read the cell number so that if anyone read the two phone numbers on her dog tag if they called the house they would know to call the cell number - and waiting until 8:30 to go knocking on doors in the neighbourhood - asking people to check their back yards for a Daisy Mae....
She hates walking - she wouldn't go very far - she'd no doubt have wandered into someone's backyard, or shed or garage....maybe she was laying under the bumper of vehicle.........She's not smart enough to go very far - she'd just look for someplace out of the direct rain....
Then at 4:30, 4:45 - on my second trip around the block I found her - -3 or 4 houses down. She was standing there looking wet and hard done by - OMG - I have never been so relieved to see a dog in all my life.
How on earth would I EVER have explained LOSING DAISY MAE to anyone?
Seriously - I know weeds that grow faster than Daisy Mae moves.
All is well that ends well - but seriously a 4 am jog in the rain was not on my list of things to do last night................
now if that had been Pandora - she could have been 10 miles away in that much time. I guess Daisy does have some redeeming features.
btw - J is the one that left the gate unlocked. He blames me - saying he thought I was behind him - but I went into the house through the FRONT door - not the gate.
