Mason update
Oct. 8th, 2012 09:10 amMason - fell twice in the last day.
once trying to get up on the futon with me to sleep on Saturday night - so I pulled the mattress out onto the floor, rearranged the family room and am prepared to sleep on the floor with him until the end. He decided to climb the stairs and sleep in the bedroom anyway - so I did get a decent night's sleep in my own bed last night.
He also fell climbing the stairs from the basement yesterday afternoon. Not far only one step, but enough that he wasn't willing to risk the stairs for a second attempt - fortunately Jeff was home AND saw it with me. So we picked him up and carried him up the stairs. Mason did NOT protest this.
He did eat last night - canned wet food - specialty diet stuff only available from the vet. Which is closed today because it is a holiday. I went through my cupboard and found something I hope is almost as good and doesn't give him diarrhea, at least until the vet opens tomorrow morning. Or I could probably call the emergency vets and see if they will sell me dog food without needing to assess the dog. So he ate this morning.
We've blocked his access to the outside basement stairs. I feel badly because this is one of his favourite places to hang out. bottom of the stairwell - he's lost so much weight that I could probably carry him up the stairs on my own - but what if I couldn't?
I'm just not sure what to do - this is not Mason living in his body. Do I try to get him well and buy a few more months or do I just let him go?
