I could just cry....

Anyone else get the Dahlal email with the specially selected Hanan Costumes...at  $300!

(for non bellydancers... a nice costume runs from... $400 or 500 to sky's the limit but... $800-1000 is pretty typical.)

I just wrote the cheques for my two April workshops... *sigh*  I hope things are better by then.

Whaaaa ...? Wow, I gotta take a look at those! Are they from Tamalyn Dahlal, or is it spelled different? (She added me at Facebook, can you believe that? I didn't add her, and it looks like it's really her.) :)

....Ooooh, I like that purple one--the Concord Cowry. :D Too bad they take 12-16 weeks to deliver!

no, no. Dahlal International - the vendor.

the designer is Hannan Sultan (formerly of Toronto, now of....Carolina? I think)

That's pretty cool that Tamalyn Dahlal added you.

Now I have to go search out the purple one you like.

Nope.
But I did get my skirt from L. Rose designs yesterday.
I should have expected it would be see-through, I ordered it in chiffon. I -will- have to make a pair of pants to go with it, but I will wear it...
and yes, I will post the photos.

Ooooh I got that e-mail, too.

The designer is Hanan Mahmoud of Cairo. My teacher goes to her atelier when she travels to Egypt, and she comes back with such beautiful costumes!

I have owned two Hanans, an orange one and a pink one. I was really into her designs for a little while, but now not so much. I've since sold them both. <$300 for a brand new costume is a great price!

I've bought two custom order costumes from Dahlal. One took 6 months to arrive, the other took 3 months to arrive. Bhuz.com is where I get all my costumes nowadays. It used to be that you had to be online and stalking the Swap Meet boards 24/7, and be the first person to see a costume listing if you wanted to have any chance of buying. But now that the economy is in the crapper, it takes days, weeks, or even months for people to sell their costumes.

And people on Bhuz are cutting their prices so much. There was this amazing Madame Abla that someone was selling. Her starting price was $485, which was totally fair considering that Madame Abla's costumes are so ornate, and considering that she died last year so there won't be any more Ablas. But nobody bought this one until the seller lowered her price to $335. For an ABLA! So you can find some great deals. $300 can buy a lot more costume if you're willing to buy used.

learn something new.

I don't know why I thought it was the other Hannan - thanks.

Yes I've been watching the prices fall on the Swap meet. Unbelievable -and me with no $$$$. I still look but... *sigh*
