is a remix album ever a good idea?

dancingleafSo I'm browsing eMusic looking for my downloads this month.
Have a few possibles...
Nova Arabia - possible but - ugh so many vocals...
Headnodic - bizarre but I like it - sort of trance like. could be very good for cool downs or something...
and now... I've stumbled into
Balkan Beat Box... which I'm really liking... but really - an entire album of remixes? why? ... no really - I get it that you want to play with and alter something you are already working with OR... maybe it's like improv right - you take something you know and change it - let it flow and be spur of the moment. I just don't understand why you'd want to record that.
hmm... just - thinking.
P.S. got any great suggestions? I'd love to hear what you are listening to these days.
