yes - well - this is a long term thing with Pandora - hence the doggie valium. She reacts to thunder and fireworks. We've tried the desensitization exercises etc but she knows the difference between tv/recordings and the real deal. And stress is really bad for her. So we do the best we can - Valium, music, small space - wrap her up in a t-shirt (chest compression apparently is supposed to have some beneficial effects.)

If we know people are going to be setting off fireworks we take a drive somewhere there will not be fireworks. Out in the country, nearby towns that kind of thing. But no one has ever set off fireworks for new years before - here anyway. UGH. Victoria Day, Canada Day, Labour Day. Random frick'n summer day - whenever they bloody feel like it Day. I have talked to our neighbours & one of them does tell me when they are having fireworks but for the most part I have to guess.

I *hate* fireworks. This all started when she was young & out in the back yard one night and one of our neighbours set off fireworks right over head. Scared the crap out of her and since then... yep - we go through this every time.

At least she isn't trying to climb furniture anymore. She once tried to get over & behind the washing machine & once tried to climb the bathroom counter and crawl into the mirror. Now she just shakes & cries but at least she does it in our bedroom. That's the problem when you have a really smart dog - they have great memories. For both the good & the bad.
