Dec. 11th, 2010 03:21 pmthe last thing I want to do is order yet another skirt.
I do NOT need another useless skirt in my wardrobe.
but - I'll probably order one of each - ugh- the cotton and the satin.
I was looking at the group performance shot and realized that 3 of the 7 were dressed in satin circle skirts. And I own one so that would make 4 of us with satin circle skirts.... so only 3 people would need them AND it would look really cool in multiple colours.
Here you can see all the skirts. (only six of us for this number...)

Now...I'm in center white - but I HAD been planning to wear gold until I decided that the gold in my top looked HORRID with the gold in my skirt so without time to remake a top - I went with a different white skirt.
You can see we have a range of sizes, teeny to plus size. The two ladies on either sides of me - light blue chiffon & royal blue satin are two of my very best dancers. I had them wearing black tops because it is easy to get people to agree on black even if it isn't the best for show & sparkle.
I'm thinking that if I can get 3-4 more satin skirts in bright colours... silver, gold, bright pink & light blue... then we'll have a unifying look. I'd rather get all jewel tones, emerald green, fushia and maybe orange instead of the gold, silver & light blue but.. hey. not available and I do not want to sew them... for everyone.
BUT I'd really like to have EVERYONE in the cotton skirt. It's too bad the colours are so limited.
I've left messages for two of the dancer - one that NEEDS a satin circle skirt desperately (because I'd like to order the colour that she likes as a test.)
and the one in the Royal Blue satin since I usually talk to her about costuming decisions - because she's the hardest to fit AND she is into costuming almost as much as I am... and neither one is getting back to me!!!!
AUGH
Why is it when you want someone to email you immediately it takes DAYS to hear from them if at all.
ps. Here's a group shot from the same night.

Date: 2010-12-11 10:40 pm (UTC)We went to Pet Smart and someone went in with what I think was a GrPyr. He panicked, squatted, and made a mess as they came inside. Poor thing.
Work party in an hour. I'm putting my black suit on at the last minute.

Date: 2010-12-11 11:58 pm (UTC)I feel you on the not wanting to sew - my last skirt took AGES, but then, the bottom edge was something like 35 yards around!
*sends you good 'people getting back to you' vibes*

Date: 2010-12-12 12:15 am (UTC)and I don't mind sewing for myself - I am not taking on sewing costumes for 7-10 people. NO HOW- NO WAY.
I've gone ahead and ordered the silver satin and the royal blue cotton. If I don't like them personally at least I'll feel comfortable selling them to someone else.
Thanks for your support. It's so difficult to make these decisions for everyone without their input.

Date: 2010-12-12 12:31 am (UTC)Well, it's only difficult because you care what they think! You just need to be a heartless dictator, and your problem is solved! (we actually have a teacher/troupe leader here like that - oh, the costume horror stories I've heard...)

Date: 2010-12-12 04:07 am (UTC)I am not putting these ladies in a too tight egyptian number with less than sufficient coverage on the boobs and a slit up the center to the who ha. like a certain local
dictatordirectorI'm not mandating a 2 or 3 $300 dollar costume investment either.
I don't want to see nipple tassels, crotch tassels or any other inappropriate items. I do however DICTATE a certain level of dress. You must attend dress rehearsal and I WILL/will not approve your costume. You will wear appropriate underwear OR pants, circle skirts will have pants under them. Absolutely. It's quite a joke with the gals that I do an 'underwear check.'
oh well - decision is made I've ordered them and will re-evaluate the situation when the new items arrive.

Date: 2010-12-12 05:34 am (UTC)The skirts in those photos look really nice, but are they a mix of satin and chiffon? (Your top looks really cute, too. :))

Date: 2010-12-12 03:52 pm (UTC)And of course I sewed my top & vest myself. So I'm glad you liked it. I've got more of the vest fabric to make a belt but I haven't settled on design yet. I have some ideas though.
I gave up on them and ordered the skirts last night.
