nude? bellydancing at the Serbian Centre?
From the weekend paper - summer festivals.
July 3 "the Naughty Show" Art Exhibit
Location: Serbian Centre, 6770 Tecumseh Rd. E.
Hours 10am-10pm
Description: Featuring belly dancing. All artworks will be for sale, but will not be released until the evening hours. You must be 18 years and older to attend this event. Please do not attend if you find nudity offensive. Tickets are $4 in advance and $8 at the door. Call 253-7431 for more information.
I know that there is some sort of error here. The art exhibit will have nude works in it AND there will be a bellydancer present. I'm sure that must be it. But the way they have written it... Well I'm unimpressed. It definitely implies that belly dancing is only suitable for adult audiences - for that reason I'm offended.
On the other hand... I'd be the first one in line if there was a local group that was doing 'alternative bellydancing' particularly any that featured adult themes or whatever, along the lines of Desert Sin or Hands of Kali.

I'm not sure how I feel - maybe I just feel that this shouldn't have been included in the summer festivals flyer?
grrrr I can't make my links work.

I agree that this one particularily sucks because it plays into the flawed view of bellydance that we are all trying to get away from.
I was mad at a repeat of "Sex and the City" where they went to a Morocan restaurant for Carrie's birthday. Mr. Big was putting money in the belts of belly dancers and Carrie mused in voice over about her ex getting "lap dances" at her party.

EXACTLY.
this is just so easily misinterpreted - *sigh*
How have YOU been? how are the girls now? I'm sure you are keeping extremely busy. Are you finding any time for dance at all?
I see you are looking for a workshop. I know of some in Guelph, Kitchener and Toronto - but that isn't going to be much help for you...

I haven't been dancing or doing very much exercise, so I'm still 35 pounds overweight.
There was a time in my life when I would have driven to Southern Ontario for a workshop, but not at present.
