Apr. 2nd, 2008 11:51 amI tried to order the same sword as
ata1anta last night. And Fire by Riz told me they were presently out of stock and didn't know when they were getting more.
AUUUGGGHHH!
enough. get some work done.
beautiful sunny day and my floors need washing. Yesterday was rainy and they are covered, just covered in mud.
AUUUGGGHHH!
okay then. Guess I am back to plan B. Giving my mentor some money and asking her to pick one out for me when she is at IBDC of Canada in Toronto at the end of April.
I did not want to do that - oh well. looks like that might be my only option. Everyone seems to be out of swords at the moment.
I paid for my advertising in the Activities Flyer that the Recreation Complex puts out 3x a year. I still have to get the artwork together.
I didn't drop off the letters for the other instructors because the coordinator wasn't available and I wanted to go over it with her. See how much she wanted to be involved in it - what she was willing to give in terms of space for meetings, forwarding materials to the other instructors etc. Between that and wanting to talk to them about my advertisement... well ... the desk was swamped so I just paids my monies and got out of there.
I emailed the event planner for the Ren Faire. to let her know I hadn't forgotten them, but was still talking to students.
And... I've been working on music selections ... blah.
oh and I stopped by the Canadian Legion Hall (like a Veteren's hall) to see if they had a space with mirrors - they don't. *sigh*
and checked the mail..... no packages *bigger deep sigh*

Date: 2008-04-02 07:02 pm (UTC)Thanks but Saroyan... way out of my price range for swords.
I'm trying to stay under/around $100.
The customs people seem to think anything over $100 should be taxed.
it adds up.
-pay for the sword
-pay for sheath/scabbard
-pay for shipping to Canada
-pay whatever the heck Customs decides to charge me for import taxes. Trust me- they've done it before.
I'm not plunking down $250 for a sword I can't try -in person. I'd sooner take my chances on having my mentor buy one for me. At least I'll know she will have tried it out AND I won't have to pay shipping or additional taxes.

Date: 2008-04-02 07:24 pm (UTC)Oh I agree. Hopefully your mentor can get a good one for you. Have you ever danced with a sword before?

Date: 2008-04-02 07:34 pm (UTC)and swords are right up my alley. I own about 5-6, all straight swords though *cries* It never occurred to me when I was attending all those RenFaires years ago that people 1-bellydanced 2-danced with swords on their heads. 9.9
My mentor has 2. One she says is absolute crap. It won't balance on edge and keeps flopping down. And one she likes.
That's why I am reluctant to buy one that "is just a decoration on the wall."

Date: 2008-04-02 09:27 pm (UTC)I too have quite the sword collection (will have to take pics of that over the weekend if the weather holds). Yeah, years of renfaires. though the sword dancing I was familiar with was more fighting oriented than belly dance.
I hope she can find you a nice one!!!
