election Canada
Oct. 11th, 2008 04:56 pmI know you are bored with election talk.
I continue to watch the polls and read my local paper. I can see we are going to have a repeat of last election. I predict that the local conservative candidate is going to get in once again because the opposition is too divided between the Liberals and the NDP.
Layton(NDP) projects a better leadership image than Dion(Liberal) but... I just want Watson (local Conservative representative) out! I don't care which of the two local candidates gets elected. I'm sure that's what's happening with other voters. Watson has support of those people voting for Harper - deity knows he'd never muster any support on his own record. I'm fairly sure Harper will continue on as PM. Best case scenario is another minority gov't.
*sigh* election crap makes me ill.
EDIT TO ADD:
" Two of the main party leaders are going to try and pick up votes in Windsor-Essex. Jack Layton and Stephen Harper are making stops this weekend in the area. Layton will attend a rally tomorrow morning in Windsor and Belle River. Harper will make a brief appearance at Windsor Airport on Monday afternoon."
I'd probably get arrested if I showed up to throw tomatoes at Harper. So I won't. I'm sure there will be protesters though.... hmmm...

Date: 2008-10-12 02:19 am (UTC)I actually generally try to stay away from people who are politically active. Watson is the first politician to whom I've taken a violent dislike. Is it because as I'm aging my political views are being stimulated? or just that some of the issues that are being addressed are ones that I care about? I'm jaded & disillusioned. Or just that the Conservatives are so... anti-everything I think is good about Canada.
Political platforms are all the same.
Jobs? yeah everybody thinks their plan will work.
Health care? yeah cuts to health care bad, increased funding good.
Taxes - raising taxes bad, Cuts to social programs bad. but someone has to pay for things? I've stopped believing that tax money goes anywhere other than into the pocket of my elected officials (who vote themselves raises and cost of living increases and better pensions etc.)
blah, blah, blah.
I can't wait for the election(s) to be over.
