Trudeau?

Am I the only one wondering if the constant media mentions of Justin Trudeau and the abysmal condition of the Liberal party are an indication that Dion is simply the stopgap filler until young Trudeau can step up to the plate?

This wouldn't horribly surprise me. But I seriously doubt he's going to be running for leader within a few months of being elected. The only thing he has going for him is the family name. He's untried and untested. I think we'll see Rae and Ignatieff duking it out first.

Also, before I forget, I remember reading a potential replacement for the federal Libs was Dalton McGuinty. Then we'd have two former Premiers running. Rae Days and Dalton Days and Doozies. Ye gods.

OMG! they can't really be serious? Dalton? no way.

Yep, they were serious. Except his denials came fast and furious, so he's clearly not aiming for it. For now.

I think they might fast track young Justin. I'm thinking 4-8 years? Has to be before the value of the 'name' wears off.

I never voted for Trudeau... just he was the PM when I was a kid...how much longer before people don't remember him? Name recognition and a blank slate might carry him a hell of a long way.

I really can't see Rae getting the nod. Too many of us remember Rae Days in Ontario.

I agree with you on Justin. It wouldn't surprise me if he's leading or close to it within the next 8 years or so. They want the name recognition. And, as you said, a blank slate is in many ways an advantage -- no screw-ups for others to point out.

I wasn't so sure Rae would have an easy time getting his seat, either, but they did put him in in Toronto, which is traditionally a liberal fortress with a few NDP pockets here and there. But he was elected.
