my dishwasher is...broken? I guess that's the best way to put it.

- given a choice I'd replace it.

- I might be able to get parts for it - but I'm not sure what exactly I need to replace.

I'd like to just wash the dishes by hand for a bit but J hates dishes in the sink or left to dry on a rack.

How many people out there still wash dishes by hand?

Me! I don't have a dishwasher, and even when I lived at home we did them by hand as well. Our dishwasher was only used for dinner parties (not that we had any - just people round for dinner maybe) and Christmas/special occasions.

I personally don't see them as a necessary expense...they waste a lot of energy too. Why doesn't he like dishes left to dry in a rack? Once they're dry, which doesn't take long, you can just put them away.

I guess he thinks counters should be completely empty. or only hold decorative objects.

dishes on the counter just add to the clutter?

Then you have your answer. You have a dishwasher, his name is J. Haha!

We run most dishes in the washer, but the lunch plastic and pots and pans are washed by hand.

The sprayer in mine is on the blink, so the upper rack doesn't rinse well. I have to leave the middle part open so the water gets around.

I told him and he was on the phone to Sears within an hour ordering the parts.

Unbelievable - the man really does not want to wash dishes.

I do but not all of them; just the things that shouldn't go into the dishwasher, which means the sharp knives, pots & pans, the bigger glass bowls (don't fit), etc. Doesn't bother me. I like the meditative time. Sometimes I put on my Walkman and just listen to music. :) I don't dry them right away. They can air dry/drip dry for all I care. :Þ
