Do you listen to music?

Do you listen to music while engaged in other activities?

Activities like reading, driving, house cleaning etc.

I find I can no longer do this.

I can't listen to music without finding nearly all my concentration focused on the music itself rather than the task at hand.

This is not such a problem if I'm reading - I lose my place and reread the same section over and over, if I'm cleaning the house... well it takes much longer because I find myself doing bumps, drops & traveling moves when I should be sweeping or whatever...  but it is dangerous if I happen to be driving a car.

Am I the only person this happens to? is this a consequence of being a dancer, performer and choreographer?

I used to be able to listen to music while writing, but find I can't anymore because I have this insatiable need to sing along and it's impossible to write my own words while singing someone else's lol.

I love to listen to music while doing chores, though, or playing cards or a board game. Chores might take a wee longer but it makes the time pass quicker so it evens out imo.

Depends on what I'm doing. I won't listen to music while I'm at work, mainly because I need to be able to hear if someone calls for me.
But for house cleaning, drawing, showering, driving; I like to have a little background noise.
