so I lent a friend my Gothic Bellydance DVD, warning her that there was some... weird stuff on there. Fine. So we agreed that the S&M scene was just weird, as was the gold larva writhing around on the floor bit.

BUT the knife duet/duel that was one of my absolute FAVORITE pieces. She didn't like it and fast forwarded through it.

her: "That's not what belly dance is about, I didn't want to see that. It looked like they were trying to stab each other in the back..."

me: "but it was so beautiful, so passionate, so... perfect - they were intensly well matched...I could just see the whole story unfold as they danced..."

...

somehow the conversation then degenerated into how she is not going to give up her classical egyptian stylings and then how she thinks I might be better suited to tribal stylings with a third person chiming in offering the same opinion (on my style).

different strokes. and I'm not put off by it - I have to take egyptian classes or drive the two hours to Sarnia for tribal lessons. but since she is my friend I had hoped she would see the same beauty in it that I did. I guess that was a trifle disappointing - I expected her to see it with my eyes. Foolish of me, but... *shrugs*

So I broke down and got an ebay account. Surprise the first thing I ordered was a tribal belt and a set of hair falls. Nice enough. I could easily make one myself but I wanted to see the construction of one first. I will definitely make my own next time. Now I have to make a pair of pants to go with it/them.

After Aziza... I absolutely had to get another silk veil. I kept watching the Akai page but the colours she has are just so not me. So last week I watched one on another seller (dance Christina) going for a very low price. I was waiting until DH got home before bidding on it because we'd had a very expensive week and someone put in a low bid on nearly all of her low priced veils. I felt horrible putting a higher bid on it, but consoled myself with the thought that this person was probably bidding on them for resale. (actually I think I recognise the name as another LJ user)

So I bid on it/won it Thursday night, paid immediately - she shipped it Friday and it was here/DH's office in Michigan on Monday morning. I am so thrilled with it. Lovely lilac colour with faint blue speckles. Co-ordinates beautifully with the solid blue I ordered from Dahlal. I may have to practice double veil with them.

Glorious. simply glorious.

now I'm eyeing kuchi coins.... my addiction is getting out of hand.
