both my sister and my sister in law have big renovation projects going at the moment.

My sister is moving in with her boyfriend. And bringing her THREE kids with her. So - his unfinished basement is being turned into bedrooms for their combined FOUR children. I've been helping out there off and on. Things are moving along. They hope to have it mostly finished before school starts certainly.

My brother and his wife bought this old fixer upper house and are working on it bit by bit. I was helping out at their place today. My knuckles are scraped and my back hurts. My SIL is killing herself out there, she nearly poked her eye out cutting a tree down earlier this week. Today wasn't too bad - we were scraping the stucco mountains off the walls and ceilings using putty knives. Anything bigger puts gouges into the walls. The sander is going to be the next step. Whoever thought using stucco on walls/ceilings to make zillions of little whipcream like peaks for texture needs to be shot. I nominate the person that put it on these walls in particular to go first. My SIL keeps telling herself it was probably the height of fashion when they did it. 8) ha

I am so glad to be home and showered. I need to go do some yoga and stretch my back out.
I feel so old. I'm also glad to live in a house that doesn't need any of these things done.

Stucco and the Height of Fashion

If it's what I think you are talking about, it's very popluar and prominent in our area, has been for at least sixty years, that I know of. All of our main level rooms (with the exception of the kitchen) have always been that way, and when we started on the refinishing of the upstairs we had it done to the main living area and we also had it re-done in the lower level bath, which we gutted and replaced a couple of years ago. We intend to have it done in our office sometime in the next couple of months. As we have no intention of doing anything other than painting in these rooms, stucco gives a more vibrant cast of light than that from flat walls. However if they are wanting to put up wallpaper as opposed to painting, you do have to sand the stuff down. Personally, I like the stucco, but then I'm older than you feel. ;)
