Date: 2008-01-20 04:55 pm (UTC)I like them too. I love big dogs as a rule, to be honest.
I have a question for you! Near the end of the video, the Newf climbed into the bath on its own accord. How do yours do with baths? Do they fight, or do they like 'em?

Date: 2008-01-20 09:33 pm (UTC)#1 - didn't like them but tolerated them - I was able to bath her on my own. We just did it and got it done with.
#2 - hates them and fights me every step of the way. She will get into the bathtub - but spends the entire time trying to jump back out. I desperately need assistance when it comes to giving her a bath.
#3 - is my rescue. He hates water. Hates rain, hates puddles. Won't drink out of anything larger than a medium sized bowl. I had a little kiddie pool in the back yard for a time and he was terrified of it. I have no idea what has scared him so badly. I fight him to get into the tub - but once he's in... he just wants it done - so he co-operates more or less.
So- I couldn't really say how a pyr is supposed to behave when it comes to baths. They don't need them very often, once maybe twice a yr. The natural oils in their coats keep them clean and you can just sprinkle them with baby powder or corn starch or whatever while you are brushing them if you want to sweeten their coats a little.

Date: 2008-01-20 11:07 pm (UTC)My middle lab hates water because my parents used to spray him in the face with a water bottle when he barked (!!!) when I wasn't home. So he hates the pool. He hates baths (I have to climb in WITH him to hold him in, and then either struggle to finish him myself or have outside assistance).
He loves the rain, though, and adores walking in it. Go figure.
Thanks again for all your Pyr info and your patience with my questions. I'm storing all this information in my brain for that eventual day when I get to convince a breeder I know something about these dogs!

Date: 2008-01-20 11:13 pm (UTC)p.s. # 2 dog... loves puddles and mud, and anything filthy, dirty and mucky. Consequently she is always the one most in need of a bath.
good insight into why # 3 might hate water.
