did you see this video? International Bellydance Conference of Canada (just this past week in Toronto...)

There's a few things in there causing some talk over on bhuz... but really - other than the guy taking his shirt off  - I didn't like that. (either on or off would have been fine but disrobing - squicks me out.  His dancing was very good.  I did like the woman with the wine glass - having done backbends & balance I thought it was pretty impressive.  (although maybe the fake drunk bit was a little... cheesy...)

see the clip...

I wonder what the big deal on Bhuz is? Are the hatin? I wouldn’t be surprised; Bhuz seems to be a pretty judgmental place in my personal opinion.

I don't see bhuz that way. I think that people have different opinions on things and we shouldn't always follow the adage - "don't have something nice to say - don't say anything at all." Sometimes someone does have to speak out. Someone should step up and say... Adore's performance 'sans' pants is tacky.

but to recap what I'd been reading the discussion went something like...
bellydance shouldn't be about the latest "prop" or "trick" like rope or a wineglass - you best prop is your body, more dancers should focus on that... bellydance should be etc.

further discussion as to is there historical accuracy in dancing with a wine glass as a prop - (apparently there is...)

I'm not the only one squicked by the disrobing. The guy is a great dancer but why did he have to make undressing part of his routine... (unless he's like me trying to figure out how to do a costume change -on stage!)

I really liked the last troupe from Korea - with veil too bad that one was so short.

I agree with your comments.

I liked the wine glass routine. The fact that it was red wine meant that it was easier to see the glass and upped the danger of spilling it. The hiccupping was annoying and she did it a few times. Not needed. CLearly, if she was drunk she wouldn't be dancing that well.

I know what you mean about taking the shirt off being icky. I'm good with dancers having a cover up, like a veil, and then taking it off. Once you have to get into taking off clothing, it just looks too close to stripping. He obviously needs some help trying to think of a male version of a veil/cape.
