....I went to have a blood test today, part of my annual physical that my doctor ordered.

I had to fast - for 14 HOURS.  - I was supposed to have NOTHING by mouth for 14 hours.  no water, no gum, no food.  duh!.  needless to say... I was starving.  Breakfast is the most important meal of the day in my book.  Always has been.  It is the very very first thing I think of when I wake up in the morning.

So I get there... and after waiting a horrendously long time... they finally call my name.

But... she can't find my vein because - duh!  I am dehydrated.... and she says... well you could have had a little water...

uh... no... my sheet says... nothing by mouth.  which means nada. zero. zilch. zip.    besides, how much is a little.  a glass.  a bottle.  what?

Eventually she managed. it took forever to fill the stupid test tubes and it darn well hurt too!

I am so not doing that again - I'll just  keep my cholesterol levels unknown.... I don't particularly care anyway.

Which reminds me... I'll have to make sure that I am allowed water until x hours before surgery because otherwise they won't be finding veins that day either.

I just had blood tests, including cholesterol, a few weeks back. They told me just no food for 12 hours; water was okay. Years ago I had tests and I was dehydrated, and yeah, like you say, it was almost a nightmare to get some blood out of me.

With surgery, they might not care as much. They probably just want to avoid cleaning up urine, but there's always a catheter for that! (Oh, yay.)

I don't like skipping breakfast, either. I hate that I have to take thyroid medication first thing in the a.m. and then wait an hour to eat. I almost want to start taking it at bedtime instead because I'm so hungry in the morning!

I have been known to get out of bed at 4 am, have a bowl of cereal and go back to bed. I've been so hungry I can't sleep. It usually does the trick.

I know my surgery will be scheduled for afternoon... which is just about going to kill me but... I need that specific day/week... so tough luck.

It may mean that I have to have a big meal and 3 big glasses of water at midnight though. lol.
